The labor dynamics of a mill is special because the personnel needs increase at a specific time of the year: from December to April, which is the harvest period (Zafra) where more than 400 additional people are hired.
This situation places us before the need to work with contractors, which are the companies that provide us with part of the labor necessary for the harvest season. In addition to contractors, we work with supplies, which are outside individuals or companies that provide us with specific services or products.
The company has an average of 1,600 national suppliers, 34 contractors and 65 international suppliers: the purchase of materials and services from local suppliers and the hiring of labour with local contractors are priorities for the company.
For this reason, we make sure that more than 35% of the purchases made by the company are made in the area and the remaining 58% are made throughout the country. Only 7% of the acquisitions is made outside Costa Rica.
